I believe the story mentions him going off to fight in the Civil War for her father.

Interesting facts
g Levi and brother Charles Place moved together, apparently with neighbors, from Pennyslvania to Minnesota very briefly but not liking it there came in 1863 to Maple Ridge in Waterville Township, Pepin County, Wis.
g The 1850 U.S. Census lists the following living in Levi's and Polly's home in Huston Township, Clearfield County, Pa: Levi Place, 36 years old; Polly (Moorhouse), 31; Samuel, 12; Martha, 8; Hezekiah, 6; Eliza J., 4; Amelia, 3; Dulsena, 1.
g 1870: Living inWaterville Township, Pepin Co., Wis., at age of 55
g 1900: Living in Big Bend Township, Chippewa Co., Wis., at age of 85
g Harriet Taxis/Ecklor/Place/Zank (yes, she married three times): Some of her children that said she and Levi were never married. Harriet Taxis was married first to William Ecklor in Pennsylvania. Harriet and William had 8 children together. After the Died of their first-born child in Prissilla (died at age 10 in 1865 "some dreaded disease”) it is said that William was devastated and for the rest of his life was in and out of institutions in Wisconsin. Supposedly she thought that it would be all right to remarry since first husband was institutionalized. I don't think that she ever divorced William. But family legend says that she married Levi (who was 16 years older than her) anyway and found out later that she should have gone through the divorce proceedings first. In 1870, census Harriet is listed as a widow farmer and all of her children are living with her. Sounds like she considered husband William as good as dead being that he was institutionalized. After Levi died, Harriet married Gottlieb Zank. The 1880 U.S. census lists her as 42 years old living in Hawley, Clay County, Minnesota
g Some records give his middle name as "Addison", others give intitial "B."

Died
April 26, 1901 (alt. source says 1910) in Waterville Township, Pepin Co.; buried in the Round Hill Cemetery (sometimes referred to as "Silver Birch" cemetery) in Pepin Co.
